My buddy’s step daughter bought a used Prius. I got sick hearing about how green it was and how little it cost to drive. Then, one day a light came on the dash. She figured she would look it up when she got home. Nope. Car stopped and wouldn’t drive another foot. Turns out the battery had died. So, how much was a new battery? I forget the exact cost now, but it was more than the car was worth WITH the new battery. She tried to trade it for a newer car. No takers. The dealers told her it was worthless. Haven’t heard a word about greenness since.

LOL, sounds like that 1984 Ford Escort I bought out of desperation...the timing belt went in the middle of the Callahan Tunnel at rush hour...

Engine destroyed. New engine cost more than I paid for the car.

When I tried to call one of those “We pay cash to take your car away” guys, he said the Escort was a “throw away car”.

I don't know who your friend talked to, but replacement batteries cost about $1500. My daughter has a 2007 Nissan Altima hybrid, same technology as the Prius. Last year her battery began failing (after 12 years going back and forth in the USA from Iowa to California). She got it replaced for $1500 and the car runs like new now.

Batteries for those older Priuses cost $4-6,000.
