Why would anyone be in shock? It was always understood that a splinter party would lose general elections and give the Democrats super-majorities with which they could rewrite the Constitution to give every single person on earth a vote in US elections. Or, they could simply change the age of majority to 12, thereby unlocking electoral majorities as far as the eye can see. Heck - why 12? Why not 9? If it was good enough for Muhammad ...

The perspective of third party enthusiasts is that it can’t get any worse. That’s what the Russians thought when they stood by as the Romanovs were toppled by the Bolsheviks. How could it possibly get worse than life under the Tsars? They found out in a jiffy. It can always get worse - and worse beyond your most pessimistic projections.
