That is an important point. While a group of protestors barging into a government building is a bad idea, and something that should not happen Democrats do just that frequently.
An insurrection is defined as an attempt to overthrow a government. None of the pro-Trump protestors, or even those that entered the capital building sought to overthrow the government. Except for the leftist plants the people were actually supporting the existing government as of 1/6/21. What they were protesting is who would lead the executive branch of the next government. By definition protesting and even rioting against a future government is not an "insurrection".
As expected, the leftist media and politicians re-define words to suit their goals.

I totally believe they were gaslighting the nation but the reason for the riot was to stop the senators from objecting to the electoral college votes of the battleground states because of voter fraud.
