It is funny how we try to soften things by arbitrarily changing words.
The proper term for those of darker complexion has been arbitrarily changed from negro to colored to black to African American to people of color, I don’t know what’s next.
It’s just stupid and I feel it is insulting to those with higher melanin content. Such arbitrary division.
So now instead of aliens we’ll say this or that or the other thing and it will mean the same and people will just start taking offense at the new term.
I think that's so stupid, calling them African-American when they've never been there. After all, Elon Musk is African-American and he is not dark. Probably 'colored' was the most appropriate, but how about 'tanned'.
Based on what the new civil rights leadership in the Harris-Pelousy administration has publicly stated, the final (next) goal for proper term is "master"...
You've forgotten "Afro-American."
For my part, I call them "Bloods." (Not offensive, is it?)
Seriously: Don't Black Americans resent no longer having a separate identifier - and, rather, being thrown into a bucket together with Latinos, Chicanos, Egyptians, and Andaman Island pygmies?
Instead of "African-American," one would have to specify: "Black P.O.C. with U.S. citizenship."
Unwieldy, no?
(Hint: That's the whole point! To make thinking more difficult by robbing us of a coherent language!)
Regards,
