I thought I read they used Google’s data to create their own searches. If so, how long until Google puts up a wall to that data?

I heard that it does, but for some reason query results are different. Maybe each one has a different kind of filter for how they display information.

DuckDuckGo's results are a compilation of "over 400" sources,[8] including Yahoo! Search BOSS, Wolfram Alpha, Bing, Yandex, its own web crawler (the DuckDuckBot) and others.
Looks like DDG specifically doesn't use google. Just as well.
