Amazon Goes Mad
American Thinker.com ^ | January 16, 2021 | James V. Delong

"Whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad." —Euripides

Amazon abruptly de-platformed Parler last week, terminating its web services hosting account with a speed and lack of notice clearly designed to ruin the company.

Amazon covered up this action by a fig leaf of allegations that Parler did not adequately control incitements to violence, or that someone might sometime use Parler to suggest that someone think about using violence, ignoring the extent to which Facebook, Twitter, and other social media freely allow all sorts of Progressive groups to glorify, incite, and condone violence.

By doing this, Amazon has exposed itself to an impressive spectrum of risks, both legal and business. Parler has already filed suit.

Most obvious are contract liabilities. Amazon clearly violated its terms of service, which require adequate notice. In addition, a fundamental of contract law is that every contract contains an implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, an obligation violated by destroying a company at the behest of a competitor or political opponent.

Parler also alleges violation of the antitrust laws in that Amazon's action was designed to help another of its hosting customers, Twitter, a clear transgression if there was any communication between the two.

I used to order quite a bit from Amazon, but I got wise and stopped 2 years ago.

Living in a town in a corn field in PA the local stores including Walmart are minimalist. Occasionally Amazon is the only store (maybe in existence) that has what I think I need.

I only used them once for some small item. I have found the same products cheaper by surfing around. Plus I can’t stand Bozo.

I stopped as well. One of the problems with being a Prime member is you spent too much. You thought about wanting something, no matter how small, you bought it. It added up to a lot of money for stuff you don’t need. Most of it crap from China.

Why would any company trust AWS at this point after seeing they can remove a site for any reason or no reason at all?

Find the website of the manufacturer and buy from them. You will actually save money because there is no add on.

Try walmart.com. I’ve often received multiple items of a single item order -fishing sunglasses (ordered 1 received 6 pair set), hunting shirt (ordered 1 received 3), etc.

I know the feeling, it's even worse if you ever worked at a Amazon warehouse. I worked at one for two years and end up ordering a bunch of stuff on it's website after I got off of work. Some of the stuff I would of never knew existed if I had never worked at that Warehouse.

I had Amazon Prime until they shut down Parler.
Lots of folks here hate Netflix but it has a lot better selection of movies and series than Amazon ever offered.
Most of my stances are drop-in-the-bucket deals but I do take them - been using Schick ever since Gillette did the “toxic masculinity” deal.

We use Amazon, a lot. But I am beginning to think it is more a habit then a necessity. I see Walmart is ramping up to compete with Amazon on their home deliveries so they may be an option.

Or, perhaps the best option is to ignore our lords and masters and actually go out to the local stores and shop like we did before.

I wish that Parler would organize a class action suit against Amazon, Twitter, and Facebook, and bring them down. I wouldn’t mind joining that lawsuit....

They are only part of the proble. The DOD uses AWS Platform.

Walmart is China for the most part.

Walmart family will adapt as the Trump movement brings back American manufacturing to America.

Looking ahead, there will be competitors to Walmart as well.

I already see one small chain of large retail stores growing wildly in popularity,

Coastal Farm and Ranch

This would only work with a functional DOJ that followed laws. The current DOJ doesn't care, at best, and plays a passive aggressive angle against the Right. The biden DOJ will actively help only those on the Left and actively destroy those on the Right.

I have a 50 mile round trip to a small Walmart. Anything else is a 120 mile round trip. It is worth it, but I do a lot of online shopping. Amazon gets much of it because I haven’t found an alternative.

And honestly? Many large companies are just arms of Big Government anyways. They serve the government, and the government protects them. It has been that way just about forever.
