To: hank ernade

Once I was reading a newspaper from 1821 or 1822 (on microfilm). It was breathlessly following the latest scandal involving the British royal family. This when a lot of the patriots who fought in the Revolutionary War were still alive.

At that time our society was pretty much evenly split - those who wanted war with Britain (patriots) and those who wanted war with France (tories).

One of my measurements of people I encounter is if they are Anglophile.

Anglophiles played no small part in pushing America toward civil war - encouraging democrats to secede then standing back as both sides butchered each other.

The English are no friends of America.
Anglophiles are traitors.
