That’s him putting on a show of impartiality to appeal to moderates. It’s a smarter strategy than Pelosi’s, which involves overt partisanship. Don’t look at what Mitch says - look at how he votes. I can’t think of too many occasions on which he said moderate things, while failing to vote for a right-wing bill.
