"Didn’t the Clampetts have a parlor?"

We've always used the terms parlor, living room in this country. In Britain, it's either a sitting room or reception room. A friend in England wrote after Christmas one year that her daughter's fiancé had given them a big hamper. I thought to myself, now why would he give them a clothes hamper for Christmas. Then I found out they call food gift baskets, hampers.

I’ve always thought “living room” was an odd term.

What does that imply about the rest of your rooms?
