I often think the same. About the time he went away the commies slowly crept in unabated. There were some good people in the 50’s that could see this coming, McCarthy being one and Prez Eisenhower another. I suspect JFK was no fool either, which was why he was whacked.
I suspect rather that if anything, JFK got a rude awakening while in office. Reagan didn’t say “Under the tousled boyish haircut there’s still old Karl Marx” about him for no reason.
