Gab Just Became Resilient In A Big Way
Gab ^ | September 30, 2020 | Andrew Torba

Posted on 01/09/2021 7:17:33 PM PST by SamAdams76

Today is a tremendous milestone for the Gab community.

After over a year of work Gab is finally migrated to our own in-house servers. If you talk to anyone in the technology industry they will tell you that this is no easy task. Most technology startups have the luxury of using third-party cloud hosting providers like Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and others.

Gab does not have this luxury.

Over the past four years we have been banned from multiple cloud hosting providers and were told that if we didn’t like it we should “build our own.”

So, that’s exactly what we did.

Gab isn’t just building an alternative social network. We’re building an alternative internet. From hosting infrastructure to web browsing and more: Gab is the market leader when it comes to defending free speech against Silicon Valley tyranny online.

For a typical Gab user our new infrastructure means a noticeable improvement on site performance and speed that will scale as Gab continues to grow.

Today’s accomplishment is only possible because of people like you.

Gab is 100% funded by our community of people, not big corporate sponsors. On Gab you are the customer, not the product being sold. We’d like to send a special thank you to our donors, investors, and GabPRO customers who made today possible. Thank you also to our team of engineers behind the scenes who worked tirelessly for over a year to make this happen.

The war for free speech on the internet has only just begun, but today a big battle was won.

Feel pretty secure here on FR as Jim and John handle the servers for us here....we are quite fortunate.

Robinson, et. al run a pretty good ship. Hopefully some of the exodus from Twitter & Facistbook come our way.

Can’t you just type in the dotted quad address to bypass blocking?

[The problem with this place is it just isn’t mobile or tablet-friendly. A lot of people these days, particularly young people, don’t compute on desktops or laptops. They use their phones for everything. That’s what makes it so damaging when apps get shut out of the market. ]

Free Republic is lightning fast even on a phone or tablet. I think that’s the principal problem for many websites - lag. I have a decade-old computer. I’m not a Facebook user, but the few times I’ve clicked on a Facebook link, the web page takes forever to load. I don’t even want to know how slow it is on a mobile device. Whereas Free Republic zips along on the crappiest dual core tablet.

Cloud services are an entire ecosystem. They offer dozens of services such as Kubernetes containers, databases, file systems, machine learning, identify and access management, etc. A developer has the choice of using those services or not. Amazon Web Services (AWS) offers similar but distinctly different and incompatible services from Microsoft’s Azure. A developer can also stay agnostic and develop their own services as well.

They might want to try India for a temporary quick fix. I would think they would have servers and the tech support as they took over the US software development. and it’s not China, and they should have some bandwidth.

IP traffic can be blocked, too, make no mistake.

There are ways around it - like using unknown proxies - but the bottom line is that if you make it so that only a small number of people know how, you have muzzled the masses.

P.S. Cloud operates on subscriptions, which is another word for a virtual environment that is all yours that you don’t share with others. It’s like having your own computing environment all to yourself.

In fact, the left did us a favor by preemptively purging conservatives from all their platforms. It was as dumb to rely on them for communications as it was for the US to rely on China for drugs and PPE, but the left always overdoes it, and by revealing their true intent at the start of the battle, all conservatives will soon be on alternative secure platforms, just like Gab already is.

This wasn’t a knockout punch, it was just a wake-up call.

Like the old BOY scout motto: Be prepared!”

See, this the start, as Churchill said “We are not at the end, we are at the beginning of the end.”

The tech dark overlords are drunk with power and it is in reality the best thing that could have happened, the Dark Lords putting a gun to the heads of citizens, forcing them to to finally abandon things like StalinBook. If they had not been so blatant with trying to crush Deplorables, many would still rationalize staying on those things because their family, friends, etc were all there.

Sidney Powell and others are telling people on Parler to shut off the automatic software updates on their iPhones, claiming Apple is going to do an update to shut off the emergency broadcast system. Can they do that legally? I have those types of alerts shut off on my phone anyway, but they still show up on my TV.
