For some time now I’ve been reading late Roman Republic histories. We are pretty much there now. We all feel like Cato the Younger; we see the fall but not enough listen. Milo and Clodius carving things up and a Caesar likely on the way.
With country fraying we are down to God and family.
Probably where we always have been.
Take care all.
We are at the very same precipice in our history as the Roman Republic just before they lost it.
The question is - will all the contingencies built into our Constitution hold to prevent us from losing our Republic?
This is the greatest test our nation has ever faced.
Except our current conditions make the Roman’s version of bread and circuses laughably ineffective. We did things they couldn’t even imagine, like making the poor the most likely to be obese, as well as all of us the most passively entertained and the least used to strenuous labor outdoors in all weather of any people ever. What prior civil upheaval can you imagine happening if they had our current societal conditions?

Yup. History may not repeat, but it sure as hell rhymes.
