I’ve heard this before... Something about their religion requires an advance warning. I swear I’m not making that up.
Because the mere threat already causes anxiety in the target population, requires the threatened party to expend resources to investigate it and enact appropriate countermeasures - and is still so vague that hardly anything can really be done to prevent it.

First, the Iranians have been making threats against everyone around the planet for decades. Sometimes they carry those out through proxy. Sometimes not.
Second, a possible motive - and this could be from the Iranians or from our sociopath seditious spooks - is simply to disrupt a predictably difficult Congressional session on Wednesday. No telling how security advisors, Capitol Police, the military, or anyone else will respond.... if at all. In this regard, the tactic (that is, the threat itself) is no different from the COVID-19 engineered overreaction.
As someone else has mentioned, it could also be to disrupt the planned Trump rally in DC. In this regard, the threat is the terrorism.
Finally - and at this juncture in American politics it is perfectly plausible - it's completely fake. Unnamed "New York flight controllers"? Why New York and not DC, which has two major airports (Reagan and Dulles). Why "exclusive" to spooky and unbelievable CBS News?
Really, it feels like we're now living in a lying BS tyranny - not dissimilar to CCP China or N Korea - where the most outrageous and ridiculos whoppers are served up as daily fare.
