Just supposing Trump weathers the storm and remains in office for another 4 years, and just supposing Mitch completely destroys his career in the process and loses his position as Senate majority leader, who would be a good candidate to replace him? Josh Hawley? He’s young, but who cares? He’s more trustworthy than most of the others I can think of. Tom Cotton? Marsha Blackburn? If it had to be someone from the old guard, I’m thinking maybe Ron Johnson. He’s far from perfect, but he seems to be solidly in Trump’s camp and would be preferable to Rand Paul or Ted Cruz..
Mitch would only be replaced by someone who cares as much about the R Senators. Only.
Congressional House leaders, and the minority leaders of the Houses, have their position SOLELY for their ability to help their constituency.
That’s “republicanism”.
