Elon Musk and Akio Toyoda (of Toyota) have both said that electric cars are dead ends given the current electric generation and delivery infrastructure. I predict showrooms full of unwanted electric cars in 2030, with the used IC engine-powered car market booming.
The government pushing the end of ICE sales by 2035 is insanity. Even Elon Musk has said that EV sales at best would be about 25 percent of vehicles by then, and ICE vehicles would still be 75 percent of vehicles (meaning that they would still need to be sold). Elon Musk's vision is to have EV robo-taxis that replace UBER, for folks wanting to get around local areas. If people want to go further, they swap one robo-taxi for another to continue to their destination. Elon Musk is laughing all the way to the bank about government idiocy (he plans to get out of car sales in the near future to focus on robo-taxis).
Every time such a deadline loomed in California, the state bailed. No reason to think it will be any different.
