The old US Militia was disbanded as a result of many of its contingents taking part in rebellion against the United States.
The Guard is a federal organization that is under state control when not on active duty with the regular military.
The militia is solely under state control and can’t be federalized like the Guard can.
Militia can be subject to the draft while Guard are already inducted into the military.
In most jurisdictions the militia are paramilitary police under control of county sheriffs acting on the orders of the governor - aka “deputies”.
The militia is not military at all.
The militia today is 99% undercover FBI and 1A% informants.
