“And we all cheered it on.”
Sadly, I think you are correct. I recall when Bush first started those endless wars. Here at FR 99% were on the “lets go to war” band wagon. When obama was saying he’d bring the troops home, I bet 90% here were opposed to it.
In Trump’s term, I’d say there are still many arguing to keep the troops overseas, but the percentage is minimal.
Point being, for 16 of the 20 years we’ve been at war, FReepers were cheering it on.
I am embarrassed to say that 15 years ago I was all for the invasion of both Iraq and Afghanistan. I thought we would be in and out. I was then convinced that now that we are there lets give them reperesenitive democracy. I bought into just about every thing the neoconservative with in the republican party sold me. I was young and dumb. There will always be reasons to go to war. we need to understand that we dont need to invade and stay. we use the military only to establish an objective that’s it. Today it would be hard to convince me of the need to invade a small country. I believe that a strong military is a must and if we use that military it means we have a failure of leadership with in the executive branch.
