FWIW, the magazine must have REQUIRED an answer that is SWEET. - Most every native of Texas KNOWS that TAMALES are “the favorite holiday treat” here.
(IF you want tamales delivered on Christmas week and/or for New Years Eve, you may want to order them a month or two ahead.)

The same is TRUE for “hickory-smoked” BBQ TURKEYS.
(I ordered my > 20-pounder in SEPTEMBER & will pick it up sometime after lunch on 24DEC20. After that, I will stop at REUBEN’S TAMALES to pick up the family’s tamale order.)

You are correct though Christmas tamales are usually sweet with pork and raisins.

Not my thing but I get it, its a special treat
