Bad News for Progressives: It's Still a Conservative Country
Townhall.com ^ | December 1, 2020 | Stephen Moore

It's not exactly clear how it happened. No one expected it, least of all the media and pollsters. But that promised big blue wave of Democratic victories across the country turned instead into a red tidal wave from coast to coast. Most progressive ballot issues in the states -- from tax increases to racial preferences -- also came crashing down.

A big reason for this turnaround in the election was the massive turnout for President Donald Trump on Election Day. The irony is that Trump's coattails pulled hundreds of Republicans over the goal line -- but as things currently stand, they didn't save him from a razor-tight defeat.

So, how deep were the losses for the Democrats? In the U.S. House, Nancy Pelosi thought her troops would gain 10 to 12 seats. Instead, they lost, at last count, nine.

But the real carnage was in the state houses. Hold on to your hats; here is the latest from our allies at the American Legislative Exchange Council. The GOP gained a total of 192 House and 40 Senate seats. Republicans flipped control of three chambers.

As a result of these big and improbable wins, Republicans now have majority control in both House and Senate chambers in 31 of 50 states. Democrats have control in only 18 states. That's a map of the USA that looks awfully red throughout middle America, with only the rusting Northeast and the West Coast colored blue.

What is truly stunning about this story is that Democrats and liberal/progressive donors (Michael Bloomberg, George Soros, Mark Zuckerberg, et al.) poured hundreds of millions of dollars into the states to take over legislatures with unprecedented spending in Florida, Texas and Pennsylvania. The American Legislative Exchange Council president, Lisa Nelson, estimates that Democrats outspent Republicans "at least 3-to-1 in the states." And all they got was a lousy T-shirt.

Money just doesn't buy you love with voters.

Speaking of money, voters don't want politicians taking more of it from them. In Illinois, Colorado and California, major tax hikes lost, and tax cuts were approved by voters. Racial preferences, rent control and pro-union measures went down in flames in California -- the cradle of progressive wacko ideas.

Even Democrats admit that their party's embrace of socialism was a major turnoff to voters. Rep. Abigail Spanberger from Virginia won her race, but she isn't a happy camper. "We need to not ever use the words 'socialist' or 'socialism' ever again," she says. Democrats, she angrily continued, "lost good members because of that."

Though litigation is ongoing, Republicans appear to have lost by a razor's edge the prize of the White House, which is a stinging defeat for conservatism. But no one in modern times has turned out voters like Donald J. Trump. Even USA Today admits that it was the big "Trump turnout" that swung state and local elections in a conservative direction.

If the Democrats govern as the party of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, they can expect even deeper losses in 2022. They may even suffer their ultimate nightmare, a return to the White House by Trump in 2024. Trumpism and putting America first are still alive and well.

Trump is basically like a clump of hair in the drain—he’s just slowing down the flow into the gutter.

At this point, the USA as we know it is over—it’s too bloated and too corrupted to fix itself and needs to rebuild from the ground up—basically a great reset, just not the kind that the left wants.
But at this point we need to (and will) hit rock bottom before we can rebuild things with better systems in place to ensure that we don’t repeat the same mistakes that got us here in the first place.

It’s very sad this is how it is but Trump will go down as the forefather of USA v2 whenever that happens.

actually, Iran has about 25-30k Jews living there and they are generally ok (There are countless minorities there).
Iran’s main issue is Israel/Zionism, not Judaism.

Yes, they live there under a threat that is never too far away but they are basically left alone as long as they don’t mention the existence of the “zionist entity”

They’ll let us win after they turn the country into Venezuela.

Great point. The GOP is fine being in the minority while Dems do the heavily lifting installing a European style social welfare state. The GOP figures they can win elections later and manage all those pots of socialist gold. That’s the Romney plan.

Trump lost because of women voters like my wife selected neither for president.

You can’t please everybody. Trump picked up minority male voters in record numbers who don’t want a Pajama Boy POTUS. He never would have gotten those votes had he pandered to spoiled and pop culture addled suburban females.

“...It’s what the Republican majorities do that matters.”

The profundity of the day thus far, because we all know the answer.

“But at this point we need to (and will) hit rock bottom before we can rebuild things with better systems in place...”

If you REALLY think that they’re going to let us ‘rebuild’ once they have full control, you have NO CLUE as to who they are. Think China, North Korea, or Cuba for models...and even Russia and Eastern Europe took generations to get out of their trap.

It’s hard to predict the future regarding cheating. With Trump beating them over the head, us owning the courts (for now), and maybe, just maybe, our people finally learning something about cheating - it may be much harder for them to pull it off in the runoffs.

But one thing for sure, if we sit on their hands and let them win clean - all of the above goes away.

when I say rock bottom, I’m talking about pretty much the destruction of the country.

At this point, only building a new country after the USA is destroyed is the only way possible. we can only hope that something gives before we turn into China.
every empire falls at some point . China will fall one day and so will the USA. let’s just hope we can build something better next time.

“China will fall one day and so will the USA. let’s just hope we can build something better next time.”

I think the demographics will prevent us from rebuilding the country, forever, short of a huge civil war and genocide of the minorities, and that’s only if we even get a chance to do that.

Correct.

I like Trump by in large, but you can’t conserve what is already gone.

And most of the capital is gone.

Runoffs are January 5 ... 36 days.

If those machines aren’t disabled by then, Patriots should forcibly enter the counting rooms and smash the machines.

Paper ballots only period.

I will donate to a legal defense/bail fund for Patriots that defend the integrity of the voting process.

No one wants war but it’s here. Either wake up or hide your head in denial.

That’s going to put a hell of a crimp on their kickback programs they will feel the heat on many issues.
Rigging the election put them deeper in the hole coffin door closing.

So only the states with money, power, and influence are blue

That is the problem. No one really cares about the middle of the continent. No one. We don’t exist to them.

I’m familiar with Athens...but thanks anyway.

As I see it, if there is going to be an uprising, it will have to be massive and it will have to be very soon, as once the Dems get their police state in place, we’ll have about as much power as the dissidents in Hong Kong, Iran, China, or Cuba. Ideally before Trump leaves office, otherwise the already-existing powers of the government (including the ability to kill our communications and even our power) will make it hopeless.

...but, in reality, not going to happen.

The intellectual contortions made by professional conservatives are absurd.

None of that matters if the other side cheats and gets away with it.

If GA Patriots make a stand, it will be the spark for the massive uprising to follow.

Between now and then, real information must continue through back channels to the public so they are with the Patriots when the confrontation starts.

Not conservative as far as one can tell. If the US were truly conservative, we wouldn’t have Republican politicians going along with forcing insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions. We wouldn’t have a massive national debt. We wouldn’t have all the sappy, schlocky “change the world” advertising. And so on and so on....
