Unless PayPal has changed, my understanding is that it works via typical ACH direct deposit/withdrawal, which is transaction-based from third party & bank to third party & bank.
Venmo is different because it has direct access to your bank account and all the info and transactions in it, as it logs in as if it were you.
Be very careful w/ Venmo. Like Google, w/ Venmo, you are the product.
