You are completely clueless about how seriously most veterans take their faith and belief in America as founded. When a man puts his life on the line to defend his home, family and Nation it is not a shallow thing.
Yes not all people join for altruistic reasons, and there are times of low risk to join. But the majority of veterans, and especially those who joined in times of war are deadly serious about what this country stands for.

Been my experience that those who say the above are fakes. No one I know, who ever had to kill, wants to talk about it - let alone brag about it.
Your “legendary” generals were all over TV during various wars pontificating about this strategy and that - proved wrong in every case. So stop with the glorification of ex-generals; they are just people with too much time on their hands and too little money for their perceived station, seeking the limelight again for a paycheck.
