Doctors say CDC should warn people the side effects from Covid vaccine shots won’t be ‘a walk in the park’

Public health officials and drugmakers must be transparent about the side effects people may experience after getting their first shot of a coronavirus vaccine, doctors urged during a meeting Monday with CDC advisors as states prepare to distribute doses as early as next month.

Dr. Sandra Fryhofer of the American Medical Association noted that both Pfizer’s and Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccines require two doses at varying intervals. As a practicing physician, she said she worries whether her patients will come back for a second dose because of the potentially unpleasant side effects they may experience after the first shot.

“We really need to make patients aware that this is not going to be a walk in the park,” Fryhofer said during a virtual meeting with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, or ACIP, an outside group of medical experts that advise the CDC. She is also a liaison to the committee. “They are going to know they had a vaccine. They are probably not going to feel wonderful. But they’ve got to come back for that second dose.”

OK, I get you.

I never bothered with a flu vaccine. Not afraid, just don’t think it’s worth it for the effort and possible flu-like feeling.

Still not impressed with this.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_human_disease_case_fatality_rates

BTW, my uncle and aunt are “rural” doc/nurse with hospital privileges. For them, flu seemed to disappear while the few COVID cases came in and overtook their hospital by wasting space for it. They are highly suspicious of what is declared COVID.

I’m still not seeing people drop dead, and hardly any get it. This isn’t even the kill rate of MERS and SARS. Not convinced we need to act like the sky is falling and give up our rights (locked up, forced masks and forced “distancing”) and humanity (hiding in hijabs).

Show me the MERS and SARS outbreak and I will consider it!

Don’t get me wrong, I completely agree the response from state governments (mostly the ones run by Democrats, but some supposed Republicans have also gone down the path of failure) has been an utter disaster. I point to people like Governor Cuomo a lot in particular for policies like forcing nursing homes to accept known-infected patients. He and those who forced similar policies (Governor Newsom, a few others) should be under indictment right now for tens of thousands of cases of negligent homicide. And I’m against mask mandates, lockdowns, shutdowns, and so on.

I separate the disease (which is real) and its fallout (hospitalizations, lung and heart damage, deaths, etc.) from the political response. And I also completely agree this is NOT a “sky is falling” situation by any means. It has a 0.65% infection fatality rate. The reason it’s been more successful than SARS2003 and MERS2012 is that it spreads faster, doesn’t kill as many, and takes longer to kill those who do succumb to it. SARS2003 and MERS2012 made people so sick so fast that they self-quarantined immediately and didn’t spread it.

I think what we’ve needed all along were some basic mitigation strategies to slow the spread, ensure hospitals didn’t become overrun, and keep people informed as we learned more. PSAs describing what kinds of masks are useful, how to wear them, how/when/why to clean them (for reusable ones), and what their intended purpose is (reducing the range and volume of respiratory droplets) would be FAR more effective than mandates. Reducing the number of people and the time spent indoors in poorly ventilated spaces (e.g. the exact opposite of causing a panic that made everyone rush into Costco at the same time). Keeping infected persons out of places filled with vulnerable people (such as nursing homes). Those are all things that would have saved lives and bought us time to get safe and effective vaccines to people.

But instead, state governments just shut down businesses, put people out of work, pushed families into poverty, and scared the heck out of people. The disease is very real, but honestly that that huge of a deal. And even if it were, the moves made by state governments were so useless and incompetent that it would have had little to no positive effect anyway.

I will never take this vaccine. Ever.

The USG has blown any semblance of scientific credibility on the question of disease, vaccines, and public health in general.

Polio was the bane of our (or my) parent’s generation. And the polio vax was still being given in developing countries up until the 1990’s or early 2000’s when Rotary International declared it eradicated. Polio vax and the eradication of the disease had been a big philanthropic / public health focus of RI for many years.

Luckily, and at least for now, we both have the ability to choose the option that is best for us.

I am aware. I was just noting there is a cost/benefit analysis in play. As Polio became more rare, the risk from taking the vaccine became more dominant, especially with that price if things went wrong.

I had a pretty bad adverse reaction to the shingles vaccine Shingrex. Now I have permanent vertigo. Wish I had not done it.

I don’t understand why they are still allowed to push this untested vaccine? Are we still operating under an emergency order? I would think that the FDA would want to gather all the information about side effects before they continue to push these vaccines. I guess they don’t want to give the public that information.
