I was born in ‘68 but I vaguely remember the color knob.
TWO knobs. Color and Tint. Color was for intensity, tint was for color balance. Still needed brightness and contrast, of course. Don't forget horizontal hold and vertical hold for picture roll.

They are in the settings menu of your TV.
Many of the high-end TVs actually have software for down load to set the TV up.
If you buy a TV at a high-end TV/Stereo store they usually deliver the TV to your home and as part of the set up fine tune the color for you.
