“I remember growing up how every year when they showed The Wizard of Oz on TV it was an event.”

Yup, watched that sucker every year growing up. VHS ended all that, but it was quite the night once a year!

Ah! The olden days when you had to trudge through ten feet of shag carpet to turn the channels.

Remember the scare at the time that Color TVs gave off radiation and you might get caner from it?
I remember an old man who would not go near a color TV for that reason.

I’ll check it out if it’s available. But Burton beats ‘em all.

I recall reading that by about 1965 or so, NHL hockey games began to be broadcast in colour on both NBC and CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). You wonder though if local broadcasts of Rangers or Bruins games were done in colour that bit earlier.

That Was the Week That Was had the singer Nancy Ames. For an adolescent male, an added element of interest.
Her bio: Ames is the beautiful blonde folksinger and songwriter who is best known for being the That Was the Week That Was (1964) (aka TW3) girl, the only cast member to appear in all episodes during both seasons of the program. She recorded thirteen albums and co-wrote, with Mason Williams, the theme to The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour (1967).

Funny.
Where would the humor level on this site be without our contributions?
Lost in a mire of sophistication and elegant taste.

They had a knob on the TV that said “Brightness” but it never seemed to work.

However, in England we had to have a license to watch television. Really. Still true.
It is a tax to pay for BBC.
They actually have a special police force that checks to see if you are watching TV with out the license.

I recall reading that Walt Disney was a very heavy smoker, but when he did the introduction to the Sunday evening shows, he put away the ashtrays and lighters and cigarettes and anything else that might indicate he smoked as to not have the kids know about that.
