A Realistic Primer on Georgia’s Senate Runoffs
Real Clear Politics ^ | November 20, 2020 | By Matt Towery

To recover their momentum, Republicans have to find a way to do three things:

First, the messaging to Atlanta suburban white voters must be specific as to how a victory for the Democratic nominees will impact them in a very personal way. That means ads showing solar panels being forced on their homes and social workers substituting for police. Calculating the cost of their soon-to-be new tax increases in their city or county, courtesy of lost revenues due to COVID, might make these voters think twice about casting a vote that is likely to add to their federal tax burden. Unless they see tangible challenges to their lifestyle or pocketbooks, suburban voters will likely continue their drift to a party they view as moderate -- or perhaps even liberal -- but not socialist.

Secondly, the Trump base must be reengaged. Make no mistake, a huge portion of these voters couldn’t care less about the two U.S. senators. Their devotion is to Donald J. Trump, and only Trump can deliver them back to the polls. In Georgia, Trump is not a political figure among most Republicans; he’s closer to a religion.

Finally, let’s return to that discussion of the recount. How about those many voters who have moved out of Georgia or who have not voted in ages but somehow managed to send an absentee ballot this go-around? These votes, however they were obtained, represent the slim margin which make the two Republicans sight underdogs in my book. There is a short window in which, under Georgia law, their status can be challenged by appealing to their local county election board.

If Trump loses or wins he should start a MAGA party...get everyone who voted for him to signup....we only support MAGA people...

and tell the GOP you want are vote we want results or we put up are own candidates...

working people will support it...Hispanic will support it... Black will support it.. ExDemocrats will support it....they will never support the GOP...they will just stay home......

other wise the GOP is dead

Trump needs to start a streaming network...news..movies and comedy,
entertainment not the PC crap that is on now

MAGA tv

When the GOP Gov. and GOP SOS are helping the Democrats with the Big Steal, what makes anyone think they aren’t going to help them take both Senate seats?

I am thinking that those folks were also in cahoots with this BS to get Loeffler to win. She and Collins were in a statistical ties in most polls up by 2-3 or losing or tied to him. Then she wins by 6% I think that was more shady than creepy Joe winning.

If the 2020 general election is not corrected, then neither is any future election. I am currently living in a banana republic.

Just the fact that Georgia has now become a swing state - if not a reliable dem state going forward, like Virginia - is a terrible sign that we have pretty much gone over the cliff.

Texas going dem in 2024 will simply be the nail in the coffin.

I have still donated money to both Loeffler and Purdue in an attempt to try to grasp onto at least a vestige of a defense against a dem house and white house, but it isn't looking good going forward because no one outside of our political circle seems to care about stopping the rampant voter fraud that clearly happened in this election, or even acknowledging it happened.

That worked so damn well when Theodore Roosevelt started the Bull Moose Party and gave us Democrat Woodrow Wilson (and the beginning of many bad things, and WW1 and...).

Would you rather have her opponent as Senator, a racist, anti-Israel, hates the military, a Castro lover, and will advocate and vote for every left position or Loeffler who will vote against the great bulk of the leftist program?? I am not happy with the spineless GA governor, SOS or the party as a whole, but I will be a lot less happy with Ostroff and Stacey Abrams running the show.

We went off the rails of the Constitution on Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009.

ALL of our elected AND appointed clapped like trained seals for a self admitted British subject/Kenyan national/Indonesian non-natural born citizen being sworn in in direct violation of the Constitution.

4) We have to also secure the Libertarian vote. The Libertarians hopefully will endorse the GOP candidates and to TV spots and public events with the candidates.

I think Kelly Loeffler should appeal to the suburbanites. She has supported Trump 100% as well so there is no shade there. She is running against Rafael Warnock, who isn't exactly what you think of when you think that the Democrat Party is "moderate", or even slightly liberal. Warnock is what you think of when you imagine the Democrat Party as radical, activist, and progressive.

Perdue should have won to begin with, and with the help of the Libertarians should easily defeat Jon Ossoff. Money and getting the vote to turn out again will be the issues there.

It is way too early to do any commentary on demographics—before we know what the _real_ numbers are.

Millions of votes were stolen—you can’t measure distance with a bowl of spaghetti.

We need these senate seats. Immediately after Nov 3rd I was saying I would never vote for another republican. But on reflection, if I lived in GA I would vote for these senators. Want your AR15 to be added to the NFA? Want the SCOTUS packed?

I appreciate the argument that if Trump was scammed, why think that anything different will happen this time. I don’t know what to say, except that Republicans did win senate and house races. They didn’t steal Tillis’s seat even though the race was close. I believe we have a chance here. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kemp and the GA SOS were willing to stick it to Trump but will be more willing to ensure run-of-the-mill republicans like Perdue keep their seats.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if Kemp and the GA SOS were willing to stick it to Trump but will be more willing to ensure run-of-the-mill republicans like Perdue keep their seats.”

That is what I think the deal is. They will dial the machines so the GOP wins here.

It would also enhance the media narrative that Republicans repudiated Trump.

Forget Georgia holding the Senate, not under the current voting system.

Also, if they hold one or both seats somehow - that means we are relying on Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Richard Burr to hold the line against the democrat socialists. Not gonna happen.

I agree with you totally. I'll hold my nose and vote for Loeffler and then go out and kick my arse for doing so. I'm all in for Purdue and will support him with my vote and money but I'll never give a dime to Loeffler. Let her spend her own damn money or do whatever she did to get appointed. Collins would have made a great Senator and I hope he will run against her in two years when she has to run again.

“Texas going dem in 2024 will simply be the nail in the coffin.”

Do you have any idea how long Texas has been “turning blue”?

Trump won by 6 points and gained among Hispanics. Pretty decent showing given probably cheating on some scale.
