Ok, kids, it is time for a history lesson. Back in 1644, a man by the name of Samuel Rutherford, a true intellectual, who held high level and impressive positions, wrote a book, LEX REX. You can look him up if you wish. The rulers at the time of the writing of LEX REX were not happy with Rutherford's view which went against the “right of Kings” as he insisted that the Kings were under the law and not above it, the same as the people were. Now, at the time, this concept was considered to be political rebellion and punishable as treason. They would have put Rutherford to death if he had not died first. Rutherford declared that government powers used to oppress the people are a licentious deviation which leads to tyrannical power in the hands of a few. He believed that citizens have the right and duty to resist unlawful government when proper conditions are not carried out. He maintained that government leaders hold their rights through the trust of the people and if those rights are abused, the people have a right to resist. Not to resist a developing tyranny of authority is destructive to the structure and function of the society. Those promoting tyranny should be relieve of their responsibilities. Dr. Francis Shaeffer, a man I totally admire, wrote in his book, THE CHRISTIAN MANIFESTO, 1981, a comment on Samuel Rutherford's LEX REX.
(Dr. Shaeffer saw in 1981 what was happening and is coming to fruition in 2020.) "That is exactly what we are facing today. The whole structure of our society is being attacked and destroyed. It is being given an entirely opposite base which gives opposite results. The reversal is much more total and destructive than what Rutherford or any of the Reformers faced in their day.” Dr. Shaeffer goes on to say in his COMPLETE WORKS OF FRANCIS SHAEFFER, page 476, “Samuel Rutherford and Bob Dylan would have understood each other. In “When You Gonna Wake Up,” in the album “Slow Train Coming,” Dylan has these lines: ‘Adulterers in the churches and pornography in the schools, You got gangsters in power and lawbreakers making rules. When you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up, when you gonna wake up and strengthen the things that remain?'" I guess America is about to find out whether anything remains after the strong evidence that this election was largely based on the rule of the “divine right of the Oligarchs” among us. I beg those of you who are still true Christians in this nation to return to your places of worship, pray, resist where you can and do not be intimidated, for if we have to once again gives our lives for freedom, then so be it. Do you want to live under tyranny? Do you want your children and grandchildren to live under tyranny long after you are gone. I doubt that you do. We have entered the crossroads. Let the scales fall off our eyes so that we can see clearly and live as though we are people of faith. Thanksgiving Day is near and a perfect time to be thankful for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. May it long remain with us.
