It's part of the plan of the BadGays - as opposed to the MindOurOwnBusinessGays - to brainwash all religious people into believing that homosexual behavior is 100% normal and that opposing that idea is evil. They send out nice, squeaky clean, married-to-a-man Mayor Pete, who tosses religious references into his speeches, and innocent churchgoers think, “Oh, Mayor Pete's so nice...and it's really MEAN to oppose gay marriage...”
