While a lot of folks have been talking about the election of 2000, I was thinking about the election of 1960.
JFK (well, actually his father) stole IL and TX and stole the election. In the case of IL the dirty deed was done by Mayor Daley and the Mafia. In the case of Texas it was LBJ who did the heavy lifting.
Nixon knew exactly what happened, and I believe he had plenty of evidence.
However, Nixon was a young man with a bright future ahead of him (though it turned out his career would later have a bunch of major bumps in the road).
So, Nixon’s cost/benefit analysis of challenging the results convinced him that he would be better off to fold ‘em on that hand and give it another shot later.
That turned out to be the wise choice.
Obviously, our current President is much older and need not worry about the future.
That gives him much more leverage, much more room to maneuver.
I wouldn’t want to mess with the President in a poker game—he is way too smart and has nothing to lose.
Good history. Another point is that Nixon was no political neophyte. He was an insider, and knew he’d get his reward provided he didn;t push hard on the business as usual of stealing elections and so on. Uniparty, pro-wrestling, both sides get rich, and after all, he was still an insider.
Trump is an outsider. They ALL want him out.
