Trump was doing everything he could to defend his COVID response. How many times did he talk about vaccines and therapies ready to go and for free etc?

Rush just said that there are a few Rs out there, right now, saying Trump needs to stop bashing the voting ‘system’ as unfair.

I largely agree with you, and would add that no matter what he did the media would have covered him just as negatively. I even suspect that if Trump had embraced masking then everyone now saying how important it is would have instead taken a ‘masks don’t work’ position just to oppose Trump.
The one thing I think he should have done was to take a lower profile at the daily press conferences, and not taken the bait to fight the media. And yes, had he done that I concede the media would have simply changed their line of attack and accused him of being distant and afraid to engage. He was never going to get fair coverage.
But (likely) defeat begs lots of questions. And one will be what-ifs regarding Covid.
