I'm going to cause some controversy here....although I was born in Nashville, my first memories are of NC. The southern quarter of the US is known for BBQ, from NC to TN, St. Louis, Kansas City to Texas. And every one is different.

Due to my early years, my tastebuds are geared towards the North Carolina vinegar-based sauce. And when you ate your pulled pork sammich, you put the cole slaw ON the sammich.....

DANG!! I just made myself hungry.

Western NC is a tomato based concoction. Go east to the sand hills and east for the vinegar sauce.
