At his first rally yesterday he sounded weak. He basically just read the teleprompter. Not much emotion.
I watched his last rally yesterday. Much more vigorous.

I understand how you could see it this way. But I saw it differently. He was speaking very seriously to a smaller, more serious audience. That meant his tone was more subdued, like a parent who is addressing life-changing issues.
Parents scream and yell a lot at their kids, but they can be most powerful when they speak in a modulated voice. Anyway, that's how I read it. Just me, I guess.

His first event, yesterday, was NOT a rally.
It was a smaller gathering (well, YUGE, by Creeeper Joe standaerds), for invited GOP leaders.

The first rally was a very small group of invited Political types and not a traditional rally. In that rally he was not speaking to “voters” in the way he speaks to them at his other rallies for which you noted he spoke with much more vigor.
Those he spoke to in first rally did not need any “rallying”
