Good choice.
I worked on several campaigns, doorbelling, placing signs, and banner waving. I learned that people can be huge jerks. I also learned that you have to deal with it gracefully if you want your guy to win.
I would get someone honk at me and then give me the finger. Instead of getting indignant I would pretend he just signaled approval of my candidate and would respond by thanking him effusively and shouting my guy’s name. This would unnerve many of them and piss off others. But they’re in traffic and can’t stop and argue.
And yes, I never campaigned unarmed.
