For Christian readers, this is a good article to forward to your friends. It is written in a very gracious manner, especially evidenced in the opening and closing paragraphs. Wayne Grudem is also an exceptionally fine Christian thinker. He has written the most-used systematic theology textbook in evangelical seminaries.

We are talking about the future of America . . . a country created by God to evangelize the world. There is no room for fence sitters in the ministry who do nothing more than lead their flock astray.

I agree with all of that, and I like Piper.

But....Piper’s position here is absurd, and laughable, if it weren’t so lamentable. Honestly....I think it’s Piper’s pride which is at work here. He wants to be relevant. But there’s so much wrong with what he’s saying, it would take me two hours to sift through it, and it’s not worth the effort.

This bears reading by all Christians. Should the US fall next week to socialism then there will only be one sanctioned church and men like Piper will be the accepted ones. All who have preached or tolerated the social gospel will be licensed by the new department of religion.

so right!

Piper is not usually naive, sloppy, petty or blind.

But here he is all of these things.

Does he REALLY prefer someone who doesn’t tweet...over peace breaking out in the Middle East BECAUSE OF TRUMP?!

In my haste to post this article, in the heading, I accidentally listed the author as being John Grudem. Obviously, it is written by Wayne Grudem.

Thanks for posting. It is a well written and thoughtful response.

However I think the author spent way more time on the response than it deserved. Piper has exposed his irrational thought processes. It goes way beyond Piper’s feeling about Trump. It shows that that he is mentally deficient and can’t be trusted as a teacher or preacher.

Grudem reflects the view of the traditional fundamentalist; Piper represents the SJW evangelical. Evangelicals and Fundamentalists are NOT the same.

“He has written the most-used systematic theology textbook in evangelical seminaries.”

It’s OK but a lot of the verses he cites don’t really support the point he is making.

i don’t want to spend any more time on this, BUT:

“to the other candidate who is guilty of sins of “unrepentant sexual immorality””

How does Piper purport to know that?!

Actually...what I have heard, and others have heard, is that Trump actually has repented of some things...and perhaps even come to Jesus.

Don’t know if that’s true.

But Piper HAS NO BASIS for asserting that as of today Trump is living in unrepentance. It’s almost slanderous for him to say that.

I agree. He knew what he meant and he had been drifting for a while.

It shows that that he is mentally deficient and can’t be trusted as a teacher or preacher.”

And a sad end for someone who taught and preached for decades so well.

(Incidentally, a few years ago, he went on sabattical and he said it was because he wanted to confront pride. It seems to me that perhaps his pride and spotlight seeking has creeped up on him again).

Grudem:

Americans are perfectly free to say, “Trump’s boastfulness offends me and I don’t want to act that way myself.” But if laws are passed (and upheld by the courts) that enforce the LGBT agenda, no creative professional like a cake decorator (or photographer or florist) will be free to say, “I believe same-sex marriage is morally wrong, and I won’t use my artistic talent to decorate a cake celebrating same-sex marriage.” No high school girl will be free to say, “I won’t undress and change clothes for my gym class because there are boys in the locker room who claim to be girls.” No Christian adoption agency will be free to say, “We will not place children with same-sex couples.”

There is a difference between the personal influence of a leader’s example, which may be rejected, and laws that compel obedience.

And yet they want to give Biden a pass on: Corruption - not a Christian value, promoting godless Communism, not a Christian value, adultery - not a Christian value as he stole his wife from her husband, Lying - constant and well documented to the point of stealing Neil Kinnock’s life, promoting immorality and arguably sex trafficking through his vile offspring Hunter?

Speaking simply for myself, I cannot fathom how ANY true believing Christian could consider voting for any individual who is a democrat. It doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

If Piper feels that way about President Trump, just think how he feels about King David. Piper is a false teacher of the end times.

The personal sins of a leader can be as harmful to persons and to nations as morally evil laws.

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

The Bible is filled with flawed men God used for His purpose.
