Hospitals are institution that change at a snails pace. Internal bureaucratic inertia and turf wars. Regulatory obstacles. Healthcare organizations have had seven months to ramp up and get their bed allocation, skill mix and material management in order. I doubt many facilities have changed their ways except to learn how to upgrade their coding practices to claim federal covid funding.

Wrong. we did all the things I suggested and more for our surge in the spring and did just fine. we are ramping up to do the same again if needed so I know it can be done. We went so far as to create our own nursing home/rehab center on one of the floors in one of our hospitals so we had a place to send recovering patients that no longer needed acute care but were not ready to go home
