To paraphrase Phil Sheridan, the only good Indian is a Feather Indian.

Ramesh Ponnuru is just one more argument for banning immigration from the Subcontinent.

“By the time President Trump is done with it, it will own the country for the next 20 years, as a re-invigorated party of the working man, the middle class, Constitutionalists, and Patriots.”

The party elite is still filled with Bush retreads and influence peddlers. As soon as Trump is gone they will own the GOP once again.

Ponnuru’s not an immigrant. This is arguably a hostage situation where where he has to say a few negative things about Trump so he can stay employed by Michael Bloomberg, who has launched a $100m effort to give Democrats an edge in the polling booth:

I dunno why anyone has bothered with it for decades. My NR subscription ran from 1977 to 1992. That’s about when Buckley began firing writers who once made it great and who helped elect Reagan. He replaced them with no borders GOP hacks and Bush sycophants.

“America has been severely and horribly impacted by the “Great Society” legislation which exploded as Johnson signed 84 bills into law “designed” to eliminate racial injustice and poverty. And, IIRC, GOP lawmakers did very little to oppose them and the many bills that have followed through the years. “

Without GOP help LBJ would never have passed these social engineering disasters. Johnson got more pushback from southern Democrats than he did the average Republican lawmaker.

You’ll often hear Hannity and Limbaugh crowing about this as if it were a great “conservative” victory which it certainly wasn’t. Goldwater, Reagan and Buckley were all vocal opponents of the 1964 bill and its massive power grab over the daily life of every American.

“Ponnuru’s not an immigrant”

Yeah I recall his Mayflower ancestry.

“This is arguably a hostage situation”

Being a greedy opportunist willing to lie for money is hardly “a hostage situation”.

An immigrant is someone was born in a foreign country and was previously a foreign national. Ponnuru was demonstrably not born in a foreign country and was never a foreign national.

If you’ve ever been in a situation where you had to give up 90% of your income because of your political beliefs ...

Yep...And you are right on the money with your "social engineering disasters" comment.

You’re conceding that the greedy opportunist prefers to lie and injure this country rather than get a new job. Like too many Dot Indians he’s all about the money.

Ramesh Ponnuru... what an a**hole. One of many reasons we cancelled our subscription to National Review ages ago.

Not at all. Take a look at his bio:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramesh_Ponnuru#Biography
[Ponnuru was raised in Prairie Village, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City, MO, where he attended Briarwood Elementary School (Prairie Village, Kansas) and Mission Valley Middle School. After graduating from Shawnee Mission East High School, at the age 16, he went on to attend Princeton University, where he earned a B.A. in history and graduated summa cum laude in 1995. He completed a 107-page long senior thesis, titled “Abortion in Nineteenth-Century America, in Brief”, under the supervision of Robert P. George.[34] Raised by a Hindu father and a Lutheran mother,[35] Ponnuru is of Asian Indian descent. Ponnuru converted to Catholicism from agnosticism later in life.[36] He is married to April Ponnuru.[37]]

Basically, the guy graduated with highest honors you can get at a highly-regarded Ivy, yet chose to become a conservative commentator rather than take his pick of investment bank training programs or private equity firms where he’d have retired comfortably a decade ago instead of drawing a salary at Bloomberg. The guy’s basically cream of the crop. He could have written his own ticket.

He’s chosen a hard road. As I wrote earlier, becoming a pundit is as rarefied a career choice as you can get. You might call Rush Limbaugh an opportunist, because apart from right-wing talk radio, what else is he qualified for? Whereas Ponnuru could have slotted himself into any financial job and be retired now or become a high-level corporate manager making millions instead of working for Bloomberg as his pet conservative.

And he started working for Bloomberg right after Bloomberg ended his 3rd term as mayor. No one knew at the time that he was heavily into liberal politics or planning a White House run. My take is that somebody’s got to play the right-wing patsy, and it might as well be someone like Ponnuru, who talks Trump up instead of someone like Niccole Wallace, the harpy who sabotaged Palin every step of the while during McCain’s White House run in 2008, and is now seemingly more liberal than Rachel Maddow.

We never knew ye, National Review. Go in peace, or go away mad. But go away.
