Commission unveils format, with new rule to allow uninterrupted responses; no mute button for open discussion part of debate
President Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden will have their microphones cut off in Thursdays debate while their rival delivers their opening two-minute answer to each of the debate topics. The 90-minute debate is divided into six 15-minute segments, with each candidate granted two minutes to deliver uninterrupted remarks before proceeding to an open debate. The open discussion portion of the debate will not feature a mute button, but interruptions by either candidate will count toward their time in the second and final debate Thursday.
The nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates announced the rule changes Monday, three weeks after a chaotic opening faceoff between the two presidential contenders that featured frequent interruptions most by Trump.
The commission has faced pressure from the Trump campaign to avoid changing the rules, while Bidens team was hoping for a more ordered debate. In a statement, the commission said it had determined that it is appropriate to adopt measures intended to promote adherence to agreed upon rules and inappropriate to make changes to those rules.

You can’t allow the POTUS to be muzzled in a prime-time debate with 70 Americans watching.
He needs to either walk or just address his own concerns whilst disregarding all the questions.
Who is going to shut off the moderators mike?
He had better bring his own microphone. The one they give him wont work.
Lol, I would love that!
They would love the POTUS to walk. The Democrats wish that Joe could talk more uninterupted. Trump should just keep bring up China in all his answers. This might fall into the category of “Be Careful What You Wish For”.
Haha!! Blast from the past! I would pay to see that!
Now I’m going to be laughing about Mr. Microphone all evening. :)
I’m not going to pretend to know what tactic Trump would use to his best advantage, but I do hope he works out a plan with his campaign prior to the debate rather than just winging it.
The President is so much more effective as a communicator when he has a run through of his material to shake out the loose side comments and compose his thoughts.
Trump should wait until Wednesday afternoon and announce that unless they reinstate the foreign policy topic, hes walking. That way, he has the benefit of keeping joe in the basement practicing for nothing while trump is barnstorming around the nation.
The Debate Commission has also banned the words “laptop, Hunter, underage obsessions, China, Ukraine, bribery, blackmail” among others from being used during the debate.
This all just continues to show what many of us have known for a long time is that anything that the establishment press and their friends are involved in is just simply that kind of a big sham. Trump could just simply walk away from the whole thing or just simply pretend he is on the old “What’s My Line” show by saying yes or no in a funny made up voice (as in the Mystery Guest segment) and we’d understand, lol.
I think Debate committee just changed it.
I think Debate committee just changed it.
If I were Trump I would just walk away, they changed the subject matter from foreign policy and now shutting the mics down NO WAY walk away!! SCREW THEM!!! Hold a press conference during prime time and explain why he will not participate!!{
It will give the moderators (leftists) even more power to bend the debate. Trump should b ack out.
Hopefully, President Trump will say “no” and have a “peaceful demonstration” instead.
I heard him today say that questions after rallies is his debate prep...I do wish he would prepare especially with the mic cut
Just another media s#!t show. Only reason to watch is to make fun of the commies running it.
+1.
Gotta make sure Trump doesn’t slip out a peep about the laptop.
They will also cut his mic during President Trumps allotted two minutes if he says anything off topic that the moderator doesnt want discussed. Just wait and see...
