Actually according to article a Republican was photographed in front of the box. The article seemed to suggest the Republicans were pushing putting ballots in unofficial ballot boxes.

California allows “ballot harvesting”, where anybody can go to an apartment complex, and walk through asking people if they want them to deliver their ballots.
So republicans put out these boxes, to collect ballots to then carry in, i.e. harvesting. But the democrats in charge claim this is illegal, although they did not cite the part of the law that makes this illegal, but knocking on doors legal.
Would it be against the law to put out a box that just said, “drop ballats here”?
