LOL! I love John Wayne.
Giving women the right to vote; on the plus side, there was Prohibition, which actually turned out to be a major-league minus, giving mobsters tons of cash. At least that was overturned with an Amendment. I was debating with my Canadian husband; he said, “If your Founding Fathers were smart, they would have covered it all with ten Amendments.”
I responded, “They gave us two very important ones, the First and the Second (which protects the first, it is said). And we have no responsibility to quarter British soldiers anymore! LOL! But as society grew and changed, certain circumstances came up; we ended slavery and gave black Americans the right to be free and to vote; women as well (which was perhaps a bit misguided, LOL). So our Constitution was amended to reflect the changing times.”
Unfortunately, some judge somewhere found a previously hidden “Right to Privacy” in the Constitution, which ultimately led to the death of many, many babies; most of which are black, sadly. Who knows what promise some of those lives held?
On the negative side, again, for giving women the right to vote, I give you Bill Clinton. ‘Nuff said.
