The obstacle is the King, he is definitely NOT on board with recognizing Israel. There are many other powerful Saudi’s, wahhabists and salafists that feel the same way.

Only the Kings death will allow movement towards peace. That will be very dicey as the powerful Saudi’s are rich already and see no gain by economic cooperation with Israel.

Prince Bandar is candid about the reasons for his monologue. First, he wants a record of how hard the Saudis have worked on behalf of the Palestinians over the decades. Second, he intends to reassure the UAE and Bahrain, which are being vilified by the Palestinians for recognizing Israel — and any other Arab country contemplating a similar step — that the Saudis have their back. Third, he is calling out the PLO and Hamas for making alliances with non-Arab countries Turkey and Iran, who the Saudis consider dangerous.

The Saudi’s are rich alright - but Iranian leadership hates them...and war with Iran would take a lot of that 'rich' away.

Most Saudi’s absolutely revere their soil/sand, over flights by Israel are not threatening.

Israeli’s on the ground could cause civil war in Saudi Arabia, whether they be diplomats or business reps.

When our armor and vehicles were shipped out of Saudi Arabia after the Gulf Wars, our soldiers, on the docks where the loading was going on, had to wash all the Saudi sand off our vehicles......under the watchful eye of the Saudi’s who then went inside of our vehicles looking for every grain of sand they could find.
