My in-laws were friends with Daniel Inouye (my FIL founded the Japanese American National Museum janm.org in Los Angeles). The museum and my FIL's hard work has since been taken over by the radical left.
I have been around Inouye quite a few times. Nice guy in a public gathering. A complete leftist in politics.
