Why? What are you going to do with the extra couple of inches of space on your computer screen, which will disappear when you move on to the next topic?

I know how to use the scale technique, but I don't see the necessity of saving a few inches of nothing.

Maybe because not all of us use the same screen resolution to view Free Republic as you do. Maybe if a 1402x689 image is displayed on a 1200 pixel wide monitor at full screen, or if displayed in a window that is less than full screen, the right edge gets cut off and you can't read the entire graphic.

With more and more images being ripped from the internet and used in Free Republic posts that are 4K or higher resolution, the need to scale images becomes more and more important.

It is a courtesy to the reader.

”I know how to use the scale technique, but I don't see the necessity of saving a few inches of nothing. “

I recommend using pixels rather than percentage scaling. I think the former allows people like me who have less perfect vision to magnify the image so we can see details.

This practice is similar to using paragraph breaks and not using all caps. Thousands of readers can benefit from just a little bit of work by the poster.

Thanks for the info! I just wanted to get this out there as quickly as possible, one
way or another. If this message is popularized, it could be very beneficial to the
campaign. A positive message and the "bandwagon effect" can go a long way.

Foolish me!

The President himself had already tweeted about this poll at 8pm last night:

This is a poll for reelection, and Trump has the best numbers in history at 56%.

“Historically speaking, this bodes very well for President Donald Trump as he seeks reelection. Right around previous presidential elections when an incumbent has been seeking reelection dating back to the mid-1980s, never has this number been this high — or even at a majority. For instance, when former President Barack Obama was seeking reelection in early 2012, the number was at 45 percent. It stayed at that level through the election that Obama won until December 2012. Likewise, when former President George W. Bush was seeking reelection in 2004 — in October — the number was at 47 percent. The junior Bush won. When former President George H.W. Bush was seeking reelection in 1992, the number dropped down to 38 percent — and the senior Bush lost. But in 1984, when former President Ronald Reagan was seeking reelection — he won 49 states in a landslide defeat of his Democrat opponent — the number was down at just 44 percent.”

“The problem is we don’t have Gallup from 2016 to judge..they stopped polling in 2016.”

Gallup did NOT stop polling. They stopped the residential matchup polling ie “If election were held today etc”

“Maybe because not all of us use the same screen resolution to view Free Republic as you do.”

Easy enough to fix by using control-+ or - to increase or reduce scale.

Ever hear of k.i.s.s...keep it simple....
