"We have around 250,000 excess deaths as of right now per CDC. I don’t know where you’re getting that we aren’t going to exceed 2019 totals, but unless we discover immortality pills in the next 2 weeks, we absolutely are exceeding 2019 totals by quite a lot."

There have been far fewer people driving on the roads. Many more of the millions of drug addicts formerly working in trivial services have been confined to their homes for lack of money, and at times, lack of drugs and associated alcohol. They're not killing people out on the roads as much.

And while avoiding the coronavirus, many frail people (e.g., people with heart disease) have avoided other diseases (like the flu). Many risk takers (e.g., sociopaths) have a new sport: catching the coronavirus. Many of them are even distracted from eating raw or spoiled hamburger and pork or picking up fecal matter with their ever-dirty hands in public restrooms for later consumption. And many other common causes of death have been avoided (accidents away from roads).

I don't disagree with any of that being true, but we have still been well above the threshold for excess deaths every single week since March in the US:

Source: CDC

The idea that we are behind the 2019 death totals is a complete fantasy.
