“I think Trump knows. This is Trumps version of Alinsky tactics. I actually think it’s pretty good strategy.”

That’s a good take.

Trump’s strategy on the 1st debate may have been to interrupt and try to rattle Biden into falling apart. However it was readily apparent that approach was not working just minutes into the debate as Biden held up well.

Trump may have also wanted the debate to become a trainwreck on purpose to make a lots of voters become even more disgusted with the election. Perhaps discourage voter turn-out and limit voter turnout to the bases on both sides where we should have the advantage.

Whatever the strategy — it was an unwatchable dreadful mess and I find it hard to believe that was not by design.

Biden’s strategy seemed to be to bring in the mushy middle and undecideds that may have not been paying attention. Therefore he was free to lie at will since they wouldn’t know the difference. That might explain why he wasn’t worried about distancing himself from the Green New Deal etc. Classical presidential election play — move a tad to the middle.

I think Trump knows he didn’t “easily win the debate”. Him saying it is a tactic. He didn’t want to go the way it did so he is making he best of it and using the change the rules talk to have his advantage. I do think he needs to fight using a former Biden intern and Ted Kennedy stooge as the next moderator
