Chris Wallace Faces Intense Backlash, Including From Colleagues, Over Bias During Debate

Fox News host Chris Wallace, a registered Democrat, faced intense backlash on Tuesday night for what was widely deemed as bias in the debate in the favor of Democrat Joe Biden and against Republican President Donald Trump.

One of the issues that Wallace was called out for the most was how he appeared to let Biden interrupt Trump but would jump in to interrupt Trump when Trump would talk over Biden.

Fox News host Brian Kilmeade even noted the discrepancy and called it out on social media, writing: “Why is @JoeBiden allowed to interrupt? @realDonaldTrump is not.”

Fox News contributor Andy McCarthy wrote: “I love Chris Wallace, but he should get out of the way.”

McCarthy added: “Biden doesn’t support the Green New Deal. Oh, Wallace got that out of him? No, Trump did. Oh, well, did Wallace clarify what’s parts of Green New Deal Biden is against? No, needed to move on …”

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld said that it was “not good” when Wallace reportedly laughed with Biden.

Not overnight but the culture changed. Manners and much more are very different today.

Really? That’s the best we got? People like Dan Bongino, Mark Levin, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity, Larry Elder, etc. They were all too busy to clear their schedule to moderate a presidential debate?

Biden was not going to show up to a debate moderated by any of those.

And so we meekly show up to debates controlled by them. Not winning!

Biden said Trump called military losers. 19 people disputed that. Wallace said nothing and didnt give Trump chance to respond.

Yep, Wallace was disgustingly biased and corrupt.

My mother (89yo) is definitely a voter bellwether. She said the debate was awful. The moderator was awful. Thought Biden was going to fall over near the end of the debate.

Nixon appeared pasty white and had a 5 o’clock shadow.

My parents voted for Nixon so the 5-o'clock shadow didn't bother them. Of course, they listened to the debate on the radio since we did not own a TV.

But we did have a record player.

That seems to be Chris Wallace's MO. It's how he and Megyn Kelly planned the first GOP primary debate at the end of 2015, and it was a disaster, too.

He doesn't ask a neutral question and have each candidate answer the same question. H

Wallace won't ask straight questions, either. He loads them up with misinformation and then asks the candidates to respond. He asked President Trump about "paying only $750 per year in income taxes," knowing full well that Trump paid other forms of income taxes, as well as other taxes. And how is Biden supposed to answer a question like that, other than to use it to attack Trump? There was no like question about Biden's taxes.

The only fair debate is to set up a straight, neutral question that both candidates can respond to. Wallace could have asked each candidate "How will each of you respond to the outbreak of riots in many of our states?" He could have asked "How will each of you address policing concerns?" He could have asked "What will each of you do about the virus from this point forward?"

Targeting specific questions to specific candidates might make a good Sunday morning interview show, but it's not appropriate for a debate, especially when one candidate gets scandal-based questions and the other gets forward planning softball questions.

For historical reference, see my topic analyzing the questions from the three Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960.

One newspaper labeled Chris Wallace "the worst moderator ever." He showed bias, was weak and unprepared, and lost control.

FNC had a chance to look good. The debate durned ridiculous because of Chris Wallace. I would like to know who at FNC thought it was a good idea to have Wallace moderate. He proved Trump's point - the media is biased.
