Something that happened to the last 3 Republican presidents, and to Obama in their first reelection debates. Did not happen to Trump.
Both Bushes,Obama and even the great Ronald Reagan were dead on their feet and had truly horrible first debates.
That's what caused the "Reagan is too old" talk, that he had to salvage with his classic joke about Mondale's youth and inexperience, in a later debate.
Most presidents get so used to being catered to in office, they just aren't ready for their first debate. It's been glaring in every other case in recent history. Obama looked like a tired old grandfather in his first debate.
Trump is so energetic, so used to daily combat with - just about everyone - that he was like the Trump of 2016, taking no prisoners.
I think even IF this was a draw, that's a step forward for Trump.
But I think in post debate analysis, Biden will look terrible refusing to answer direct questions. And Trump made plenty of good points and one liners.
If the brawl was a draw, the historic advantage goes to the President for being ready in the first debate.
Biden will be hiden in his basement.

Trump should have gone after Biden a lot more about his reclusiveness. A lot of people are curious about Joe’s hiding in his basement for days on end. Trump could have made some easy points by pressing the issue.
Thank God! I thought you were saying spandex underwear...
I wonder how many lid days Biden will have to have to recover from this debate.
I did notice that Biden put forward numerous lies, refused to comment on packing the court, admitted that he hadn’t called the mayor of Portland and gov of Oregon about putting down the riots. Several times he looked very weak and pathetic.
Trump could have done better but he at least looked energetic and will be back on the campaign trail tomorrow in Duluth MN.
Unfortunately, the bar was so low that all Biden had to do was show that he was able to stand up for a couple of hours and the press would proclaim him the winner...
Biden looked bad & sounded bad.

Repeated stuttering and the occasional blank stare.
Trump didn’t bring his A game tonight but, on the other hand, he left no doubt about his vitality, energy and passion for the job.
They look like that when Disney doesn’t get the skintone just right on their animatronics.

I was particularly surprised that Hiden showed up, stayed awake, and was somewhat coherent most of the time with the help of Wallace.
They look like 2 raisins pushed into a lump of dough.

Trump did great.
I sooooo wanted Trump to respond to quidproJoe with mention of the 500 MILLION that was given to just one company (Solyndra) by the obama/biden administration; the company went bankrupt! Just one of many examples of wastes of money that will happen with the green new deal.
Like I said, Trump will cover everything he wanted to say tonight in the coming days. Tonight was about shelling the coastline and rattling the enemy.
Post debate fact checking will show Biden so wrong on so many things. Denying ballot issues, booming Obama economy, China trade deficit, 1994 crime bill (big one)...
Tonight was about shelling the coastline and rattling the enemy.

LOL! :)
Thank you President Trump!
Over under +/- 3
I covfefe what you did there!
Not a single vote was changed by tonights debate. The voters already know the issues.....these are just beauty contests.
Trump get a TKO in the 10th round. Biden didn’t win any votes tonight. Back to the basement to rest up......
I agree. Trump showed up as his usual street fighter self, and did NOT TAKE CRAP from the democRAT tag team of Wallace /Biden.
Thats why I love him so much.
Pence will take care of Kamala.
And this VP debate may be the most important of all, since everybody knows Kamala will eventually be POTUS if Biden wins.
