I doubt they would be stupid enough to try an earpiece. Someone who is mostly lucid could probably pull it out, but I don’t think his brain could get his mouth to speak what was being whispered in his ear fast enough and he would just end up sounding like a babbling idiot (and I’m mean much worse than he normally sounds). Either way it would be way too obvious and would completely turn off any independent voter.

Remember when you made 'crib notes' for test taking back in the day? No? Just me? Well, you didn't write the entire answers due to space limitations. All you really needed was a key word or phrase, or maybe a formula.
So they wouldn't be whispering whole answers over the wire. There's no way gramps could listen and talk at the same time. They would just key phrases or words to trigger the coaching that he already got previously to the suppled questions.
Or when he gets in trouble. They probably have a few 'escape' lines teed up.

The camera has caught Biden on numerous occasions with hand to ear, long pauses as he listens to internal info, and actual wire descending down his neck.
Check out this 12 sec video of Joe with a very thin wire just visible behind his left ear.
Biden and crew have practiced so long and performed in front of so many venues that Joe has become totally dependent on the voices in his ear.
This devatating situation is the only rational reason for the Biden camp to come out today with their refusal of an ear exam--after committing to it to the Debate Committee during earlier negotiations.

No doubt, use of a wire is a gamble for the Dems. But, because Joe Biden has become totally addicted to those voices in his head, the use of a wire is now mandated.
