In 1960 there were a lot of Protestants who did not like Kennedy’s Catholic faith. But times have changed. It is now atheists, secular Jews, and Rainbow Protestants (former mainline Episcopalians/Presbyterians/Methodists) who attack Barrett’s faith. These are groups who believe in Gaia not in God.

Kennedy put the Protestants at ease when he crawled down to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association in September 1960 and informed the gathering, "I do not speak for my church on public matters, and the church does not speak for me."

(His Catholicism would take a back seat to his public office.)
