Just hours before Donald Trump will presumably announce his nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, the New York Times pushed out this attempt to rehab attacks on Barrett over her Catholic faith. Give Elizabeth Bruenig this much credit she manages to front-load the debunking of attacks on Barrett over the false People of Praise/Handmaids Tale connection. Dianne Feinsteins comment, the dogma lives loudly within you, and thats of concern, is called infamous.
However, all that is mere predicate to declare attacks on Catholicism fair game in a confirmation hearing, because of its fundamental conflict with the American ethos:
But the animosity faced by Catholics in todays America has little in common with its direct predecessor. Real sex-abuse scandals have replaced the imaginary ones circulated in the lurid tracts of yesteryear. White Catholics are no longer subject to the religious bigotry that once animated vicious rumors and, occasionally, violent attacks on Catholics and their places of learning and worship. Rather than regenerating a long-vanquished prejudice, Ms. Barretts nomination has merely renewed attention to a fundamental conflict, centuries underway, between Catholicism and the American ethos.

Pelosi has never stepped her a@@ in church..someone who loves murdering babies in the womb should keep away from church
Unfortunately many Catholics love abortion, same with American Jews, Ive gone to temple many times, the majority of them favor abortion..even up to 9 months
When Ginsberg died, I figured that Trump would not be able to get 50 Republicans away from campaigning to get embroiled in a Senate confirmation. It is only in seeing how this is playing out that I see how brilliant it is to have it now instead of after the election. For starters, Joe Biden’s strategy completely relies on getting votes from non-serious Catholics in rust belt states. Even non-serious, old style liberals, and many ex-Catholics don’t get too excited about abortion.
Trump is changing the field of play, and he can go on being Trump. The campaign operatives for Biden, and also for Democrats who want to be perceived as reasonable, are going to be forced to pick a side by the crazies who will be dominating the airwaves with allegations that Judge Barrett is evil because she has seven children, adopted two from Haiti and belongs to a charismatic church group.
This time they won’t even have the option of coming up with middle aged women to claim they were assaulted by the nominee. No. This time the Democrats have to pick on the girl. Unlike Harriet Miers, this girl is extremely competent.
BTW, has anyone else noticed that 8 of the 9 women on Trump’s list had shoulder length or longer hair, and the three women on the court (Kagan, Sotomayor, Ginsburg) would never show long hair? My not as political Canadian wife suggests they are not will to demonstrate their femininity as much. (I’ll give Ginsburg a pass because the long hair thing doesn’t work as well when you are that old.)
Maybe a little anti-Catholicism is a good thing when it comes to Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi.
The “Catholic” faith of Nancy Pelosi is a head fake, insincere and in no way, shape, form, or manner, has any impact on her personal moral compass. Speaker Pelosi is apparently directed to some other goal than that of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, founded upon and conformed to what most persons who are citizens of the United States and swear allegiance to the nation and the flag for which it stands, believe in and practice.

Why vote for an unknown? Vote for America's Churchill, Donald J. Trump, a known doer, a known success, a known winner....you don't even have to like him, just respect him for his success and our Constitution which he respects. Lord knows Biden doesn't or can't.
Fineswine knows all about dogma she is one
I don’t mind at all that Dims are going down this rabbit hole.
Especially since ACB would be the 6th Catholic on the court.
Folks would probably want to take a look around if it was 6 Mormons, or 6 Baptists or 6 Jews...of 9 total votes.
What makes 6 Catholics exempt?
There is either something there that will convince 3 more senators to vote nay, or there is not. But I don’t mind them asking the questions.
I’m going to make that my new tagline.
Thought Nazi Pelosi was Catholic.
But, as Archie Bunker said, The good kind; doesnt take it seriously.
This fishwrap wouldn’t dare attack the religion of a rag head if nominated to SC
That certainly applies to Sotomayor (the Unwise Latina) and Kagan.
Borking is defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary. Unfair political attack is the definition.
They usually group it with “Swiftboating”.
Make of that what you will.
(His Catholicism would take a back seat to his public office.)
Why in heaven’s name, doesn’t the senate just confirm that lady on Monday morning and put an end to this nonsense once and for all. Why give the democrats and their media syncophants a month to “Kavanaugh” this decent human being. This demonizing and the slander to come serves no useful purpose whatsoever.
What a disgrace the NYT has become, though I suppose it always has been.
Makes you wonder what they are do in temple?
Of course, only God knows Nancy’s heart, and just like with all of us, He longs to have a relationship with her, but just looking at the surface, through human eyes, Nancy and others like her remind me of mobsters who go to mass and pretend to be devout, while ordering or committing heinous crimes.
That's all ya got, huh?
