Why does this country put blacks on a pedestal? Crazy that Hispanics make up a larger percentage of the country yet blacks are the ones getting another federal holiday.
Before this year, most blacks didnt even know what Juneteenth was.
But to your point, the black members of our work group in New York thought that Juneteenth was the day the folks in the south did horrible things to black people.

Oh, and not a one of them knew when Emancipation Day was.
And they say every month is white history month.
It is a real holiday that dates back to 1865—Mostly celebrated in Texas. Unlike the fake Kwanzaa that was made up by a Long Beach College Professor in 1970.
They give them debit cards now. Anyway, I used to be an I.T. manager over a crew where some of them were responsible for overseeing equipment at food stamp outlets around the city. If a router, controller or server hiccuped then complaints would roll in. My boss wanted to cut the staff to only one person responding. My guys said no, and asked me to join them on rounds, they always went at least in pairs. So my best worker, a tough black guy from the ghetto, took me to an outage. We got there in our van, and there was a long line of irate blacks yelling at us that they want "their money". My worker said "Okay, your job is to watch my back while I pull equipment from the van and bring it in.". Here I am, a white guy in a suit, and I'm supposed to defend him! I had no problem pushing against my boss to allow the staff to continue sending workers out in pairs. This was about 30 years ago, and I hope conditions are better now.
On the flip side - those who keep trying to erase History will be stuck with a holiday that can be used to keep much of what they try to bury on top of the ground.
To everyone here who think that this is okay and a good idea...
Please relate your personal experiences while attending a local Juneteenth gathering this year.
HISTORY: Not all slaves were freed by the Emancipation Proclamation, nor via Juneteenth. Only the slaves of the REBEL states were freed then. Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was a wartime effort to split and weaken the South; he did NOT free any slaves in the Northern states. Slaves in the non-rebelling border states had to wait for the 13th Amendment, effective December 18, 1865.
