I don't agree with the selection, but I understand it. There are polls showing Trump performing weakly among white women who voted for him in 2016. They don't like his tweets or personality but like his policies. Barrett reminds these women that Trump can deliver on their priorities and to ignore the tweets.
This is a play to get these women on board the Trump Train. Ignore the tweets and focus on the policy. Barrett turns off the pro-choice former democrats that voted for Trump in 2016 though. They only care about the economy, immigration, and trade. He has a coalition. The campaign determined Barrett adds more conservative religious women than subtracts moderate ancestral democrats. I hope they are right.

Me too but if she was a serious contender, Trump would have met with her but he has denied the meeting. In the other 2 supreme court nominations, there were reports of Trump meeting with multiple candidates not this time.
It seems McConnell told him that there is a tight timeline and the Senate caucus knows Barrett and there isn’t enough time to vet an unknown candidate like Lagoa. The supreme court nomination was too important to risk on an unknown like Lagoa.
